Eating a healthy breakfast in a hotel/motel room and trying to stay fit can be a challenge. Today I would like to answer the magic question of whether you can eat a healthy breakfast in a hotel/motel room.
Breakfast is actually often considered to be ’the most important meal of the day’ as it not only breaks the fasting period as the name suggests, it also provides you with important nutrients required for the day (1.).
With a healthy breakfast, your day can definitely be better. In this post, I would like to resolve the issue of how to prepare a healthy breakfast in a hotel/motel room.
CAN YOU EAT A HEALTHY BREAKFAST IN A HOTEL/MOTEL ROOM?
You have 2 options when it comes to eating a healthy breakfast in a motel: you can prepare your breakfast in the motel or eat out.
But before you choose an option don’t forget one thing!
Start your day with a glass of warm water with lemon in it. All you need is purified water and lemon and you will have a better start to the day.
Lemon water helps with digestion, provides part of the necessary water intake, and helps to avoid kidney stones. Not to mention that it supports your weight-loss because water and lemon are both important elements if you are trying to lose weight.
NO FRIDGE OR GROCERY STORE IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD
If you are staying in a motel then it is possible that you either have a tiny fridge or you don’t have a grocery store nearby. What are you going to do for breakfast? Well, if you have a car you can buy a few items at the supermarket to bring to your room.
THE GOOD NEWS…
For a healthy breakfast, you will just only need a few things which will be required to be kept in the fridge.
What You Should Buy In The Supermarket For a Healthy Breakfast In A Motel?
I have experienced this situation where the fridge was tiny and I had to drive to the supermarket. However, I figured out what to eat for breakfast to stay healthy or lose weight under these circumstances.
THE BEST FOOD YOU SHOULD HAVE IN YOUR MOTEL ROOM …
For a healthy breakfast, it is very important to supply your system with all the necessary nutrients. Just as in the case of a healthy dinner, there are 4 important ingredients you have to think of when it comes to having a healthy breakfast in a hotel/motel room:
- FIBER
- WHOLE-GRAIN
- HEALTHY FAT
- PROTEIN
My favorite meal that provides all the important nutrients for breakfast and allows you to stay fit and healthy is banana oatmeal with almond butter and blueberries.
What you need to buy?
- Banana: great source of fiber and antioxidants
- Oatmeal: great source of whole grain
- Blueberry: great source of fiber and antioxidants
- Almond Butter: great source of protein and healthy fat
- Unsweetened Granola: good and very tasty source of whole grain
- Maple Syrup or Honey: a healthy version of ’sugar’
I also love coffee and if you do as well you can drink a good instant coffee with rice milk or almond milk. These are the best options. If you don’t like coffee then green tea is an even healthier option for you, since it is rich in polyphenols and can reduce inflammation and the chance of getting cancer (2).
IF YOUR ONLY OPTION IS TO EAT OUT …
If you haven’t gone shopping or you just feel like eating out there might be a Starbucks nearby, or another alternative where you can get some food to eat.
Starbucks is probably the most popular place I visited when I stayed in a motel.
Since you are not eating out every day having a scone, muffin, or egg and ham sandwich shouldn’t be an issue. Additionally, you can grab a cup of coffee or a cup of tea. If you are trying to lose weight eat just half the scone, muffin, or sandwich and wait to eat the other half 2-3 hours later.
What I usually do when I go to Starbucks for breakfast is to share the meal with my husband.
You can follow a similar strategy when eating at other places. For example, by only eating half of a large sandwich and then eating the other half 3 or 4 hours later you won’t end up overeating. Increasing the frequency of your meals and eating smaller portions is an important rule of weight-loss.
If you go to a place where they serve eggs you can eat a meal such as scrambled eggs, an omelet, or fried eggs. If you want to lose weight try not to eat more than one slice of bread with the meal. Not eating bread at all is even a better idea, since these egg meals are usually quite large.
If you like to eat pancakes then I would limit your meal to two pancakes so you can be successful with your weight loss.
If you choose to eat out for breakfast it is very important to track your daily calorie intake, since you will probably end up consuming more calories.
So that’s all I have to share with you about how to eat a healthy breakfast while staying in a motel.
I hope you find this information helpful and you enjoy your breakfast wherever you are 😊!
