9 Amazing Weekend Getaways In California

As I am just about to enjoy one of my best Weekend Getaways In California it is best to stay on subject and discuss what are supposed to be the most amazing weekend getaways in California. For stressless global health and wellness especially during the daily challenges of  COVID 19, it is important to break the persistent daily routines and experience something that could be unique. (1.)

And this is what weekend getaways are about for me! To experience something new and share it with you guys!

What is a Weekend Getaway?

Getaway is usually a place where one escapes for recreational and relaxation purposes mostly for a short period of time, like a weekend.

Obviously, it does not have to be a weekend if a longer time is needed. There are two-week getaways as well.

However, today I would like to focus on Weekend Getaways In California, so let’s dive into it!

The 9 Weekend Getaways in California

1.San Diego

San Diego is a big city with all sorts of opportunities.

If you want to enjoy the city vibe then the Gaslamp Quarter on 5th Avenue in downtown is a great option. Ocean Beach is a lovely place to hang out if you want to enjoy the beach vibe. There are a few well-known taco places at the beach too. If you visit San Diego you should check out Old Town to see some Spanish history.

2. Santa Barbara

Santa Barbara has a lot to offer if you are looking for a little getaway during the lockdown. First and foremost it has beautiful beaches and harbors where you can hang out.

If you want to get to know what are the things you can do in Santa Barbara during the quarantine then click here, because I have just been there recently and I share my personal story.

3.San Francisco Bay Area (Marin County)

The San Francisco Bay Area does still have a few exciting things you can do during this quarantined world. There are beaches, over 200 parks to go to where you can enjoy the food that you can buy for takeaway. (2.)

Although the major attractions are temporarily closed, if you are into hiking then the Crosstown Trail is a beautiful option for both hiking and biking.

Places in the Bay Area I would recommend visiting are San Francisco, Mill Valley, San Rafael, Fairfax, and the Russian River area.

As you go south toward Los Angeles you should definitely visit Morro Bay, which I will discuss later.

4. Palm Springs

Palm Springs is known for being the home for well-known people, especially actors and performing artists. I rode through this town once and it was as beautiful as you probably imagine it would be. It has a lot to offer if you are looking for a place with rich natural resources, museums, and for hanging out.

However, I will recommend visiting it when the weather is not so warm since Palm Springs is also known for its hot temperatures.

5. Ferndale

Ferndale is a small town on California’s Redwood Coast and it is a great place to visit if you love historical landmarks and the feeling of going back in time. This town definitely feels like you are back in time with its Victorian Era buildings. This place also has a lot to offer in terms of art with its art galleries and performing art venues. (3.)

6. Morro Bay

Morro Bay is an affordable beach vacation with several opportunities. First and foremost it has the amazing 576 foot Morro Rock. If you are an animal lover then Morro Bay has wonderful wildlife viewings. And last but not least you can swim around the bay and book a boat tour as well, to see what the bay has to offer in terms of wildlife.

7. Big Bear Lake

There are a few interesting things you can really accomplish here especially if you are into the lake lifestyle. Mostly, if you love doing some seasonal outdoor activities this is a great spot. People usually go skiing and snowboarding during the winter. In the summer water activities, such as swimming or other water sports are popular, and spring or fall gives a great opportunity for fishing. So give this place a chance by putting it on your Getaway Bucket List.

If you enjoy spring, summer and fall outdoor activities this is definitely the place for you.

8. Joshua Tree National Park

If you want to feel the touch of the desert in California then Joshua Tree National Park is the place to go. This place has beautiful views, a great escape for even a single person to enjoy and contemplate while doing some hiking. Having a car getaway and camping for 15-20 bucks a night is what people usually do, and they leave with great memories 🙂

9. Idyllwild

If you love the woods and the European alpine feeling then head to Idyllwild which is 100 miles southeast of Los Angeles. This small town is great for people who love outdoor activities, such as hiking or rock climbing. And if you want to take it easy then head over to art galleries and local restaurants that this place has to offer because they are worth it. As a European, I could say this place is a great opportunity to bring a little Austria into your life for a few days.

So this was the summary of the top weekend getaways in California!

Enjoy your trip,

Eszter
