HOW TO START A MORNING ROUTINE –THINGS TO DO BEFORE 9 AM TO BE FIT AND ENERGIZED

It is important for you to get to know the tricks of how to start a morning routine to feel energized for the day and stay in shape.

Speaking from experience if one important piece of your healthy morning routine is missing it can affect your day.

One of the most important things I have done to ’start the day the right way’ is that I quit my 9 to 5 office job. One of the best morning jobs I ever had was when I was a fitness instructor in a hotel in Spain. Because of those morning habits that were required for the fitness job I felt really energized and healthy, and I had an awesome rest of the day.

The good news is you don’t have to be a fitness instructor to establish the best morning habits.

Today I would like to show you how to start a morning routine the right way with 6 healthy habits. These strategies are also applicable if you have a day job either in an office or at home. Most of these tips are evidence-based, but there are also a few tips that I just love doing and make me feel better.

WASH YOUR FACE WITH COLD WATER

The first thing I do right after I get up is to wash my face with cold water. You basically just splash your face 3 times using a quick and firm move.

Splashing your face with cold water is actually a great skincare routine which is suggested by dermatologists (1.)  because cold water tightens your pores by increasing blood circulation which makes your skin look better.

MAKE YOUR BED

“Tidy room, tidy mind”. In my case for sure.

Making your bed is a very important element of a tidy room. It gives the feeling that you are already focused by emphasizing that the sleeping time is over and that you are ready to start your day.

When talking about having a tidy room it is important to note that cleaning or organizing your place is a very useful activity you can do at home to feel stimulated and not get bored.

DRINKING WARM LEMON WATER

Drinking warm lemon water is not only the most important element of your daily water intake, but it also has scientific benefits to improve the quality of your skin and your digestive system (2.).

Ayurvedic medicine also emphasizes lemon water’s positive effects on food digestion by making digestion easier. No wonder that this habit is known for promoting weight-loss as well.

Because lemon is rich in vitamin C and potassium this drink provides your body with essential nutrients.

MORNING PILATES SESSION

The best time to do Pilates is in the morning as it boosts your circulation, brightens your mood, and gives you a great basis to feel energized for the day (3.).

The reason why I think pilates is the best workout to do in the morning is that due to the nature of the pilates exercises it really warms-up your muscles. That could be the reason why a morning pilates session promotes oxygen-rich blood circulation.

Such pilates exercises as the hip bridge, cat and cow, hip roll, or bird dog are very often included in a healthy warm-up before the conditioning part of a workout.

These facts actually explain why a morning pilates session is important to start your day the right way.

MEDITATION

The morning pilates session is usually followed by a 5-minute meditation at the end.

I started doing a 1-minute mediation and then get to the point where I am able to do 5 minutes.

The reason for the short duration is that instead of sitting or laying on a mat I do this meditation in mountain pose, which looks SIMILAR TO the image above. While I do mountain pose I exhale and inhale through my nose for 8 seconds.

Mountain pose is basically a yoga routine that is called ’TADASANA’. Since during yoga sessions belly breathing is often the case I recommend you use belly breathing during the meditation part as well.

PRAISE 3 THINGS

After you finish the morning pilates and meditation you are almost set.

All you need to do to get set for the day is to praise 3 things in your life that you are grateful for.

There is no doubt that this habit has great benefits for your mind and soul by helping you look at things from a different perspective. Sometimes we feel sad when things don’t turn out the way we wanted it to.

This happened to me too… believe it or not the thing that helped me through those moments was to go over a few things in the mind that made me feel privileged.

I am sure if you give yourself a few minutes you can think of a handful of things that will make you feel good about yourself at the moment. In order to remember that moment don’t forget to write down the 3 things you praise.

So this is the summary of how to start a morning routine the right way by following 6 simple strategies before 9 am.
